a brief word from the peanut gallery

What the heck is a peanut gallery anyway? Am I messing up that colloquialism… it makes no sense I tell you.

Oh, I was saying. Now you know how we Losties felt during the writers’ strike. It’s not that nothing’s been happening, but just that I’m not only back at work, but desperately trying to meet a deadline (that I should have been trying harder to meet all those many days, weeks, and months I was blogging so very furiously). So I’m stealing this little moment, over coffee, trout, and GoLean Crunch, to provide a little update. A happy update. In most recent news, all three of our boys slept from 7:30pm last night, until 5 am this morning. That’s 9.5 hours, or, translated, Sleeping Through The Night. At 5, Pablo was grunting, and Levi had rotated himself 90 degrees in his crib, perhaps an early interpretive dance response to the earth’s journey around the sun. Al and I fed their royal cutenesses together, and for a solid half hour had Pablo and Levi confused. It was my fault. She walked in and I said something like, “this here guy guzzling on my lap, that’s Levi,” when in fact it was not. And if Alex were here to tell the tale she’d say, I knew it was Pablo actually, but she’s off sleeping, and history is written by the victors. Mmm….GoLean Crunch. It’s a guilty occasional pleasure. Anyway. It really wasn’t until I took Tiny (for it turned out to be Tiny) up on the changing table and noticed his blue panda onesie that I realized our mistake. We feed them in the dark at 5am, you see, so blue and green have a tendency to look a like. As do Pablo and Levi. Satch, on the other hand, looks completely different. So much so that Alex called the perinatologist last week and asked “are you absolutely sure he’s identical?” The doctor actually went back over our ultrasounds – and there are many – and then had the nurse call to confirm, 101 percent, that Satch IS indeed a clone. Al and I both agreed yesterday that he will probably become a jockey when he grows up. This after I had a dream that Satch was a jockey, complete with the whole jockey outfit, the horse, everything, except his face was exactly the same as it is now.

Well, that’s the news. I will post some new photos when I can – the last couple are kind of tough to top. Oh, but check this out. Official weights yesterday: Satch: 11 lbs 12 oz; Pablo 13 lbs 8 oz; Levi 12 lbs 1 oz. The car seats are getting HEAVY.

Entry filed under: update.

And in the end… quick flashes

so then why would my MFM and OB not tell me my boys were ID based on the ultrasounds? or the fact that there was one placenta? or the v thin membranes? doctors are funny. we ended up getting them DNA tested just to be 100% sure. thankfully we knew someone who worked in a crime lab, so it was free. whew!

and don’t feel too bad, i still get mine mixed up, but i’m definitely getting better at telling them apart. mother of the year, right here!

It’s funny. Every doctor who ever had a look at any of our ultras said immediately Identical. This goes back to the first one at like 7 weeks. But the ultrasound technicians were in disagreement about it the whole time. We must have had about 15 different technicians in all, and they were always thrown by the deceptive shape of the single placenta (it could look like more than one). Still, ole Satch has a completely different thing going on over there – wherever and however he finds it.

The whole time during that particular feeding I was marveling at how similar Pablo and Levi looked. Good thing our color code remains super-strict, or we might have had them confused for the rest of their lives.

It’s Howdy Doody Time. Buffalo Bob, the host, referred to the audience as the Peanut Gallery. Did any of us ever think to wonder WHY he did so? I know I didn’t. Did the phrase predate Buffalo Bob? Oh Dan, you raise such imponderable questions….

Wow! Who knew? And…there’s even more info – but Howdy Doody is a near the top…
