This update’s for YOU, Turkey!

Hi all,

It’s really gratifying that every time I speak to anyone over the past few days, their first question is “How’s Pablo?” I’m happy to report he had another good night, and the odds are looking good for him to be extubated today. Once that happens, feeding and marsupial moments are not far off. I snuck up to the NICU this morning and found a nurse who was just giggling away at Satch as he flailed around with his all-open, all-the-time eyes. “He’s so cute!” she exclaimed when I walked in. I took it as a personal compliment, because just half an hour earlier as I lay groggily on the couch (next to yet another cold window) Alex gazed at me and said “oh my God! You look just like them!”). Right on, mama!

We’re checking out today, but in keeping with the treatment we’ve received here to this moment, no-one’s rushing us, so we’re having a nice long morning. It’s Thanksgiving Day, and we are so thankful we risk spontaneously metamorphosizing into a Hallmark greeting card. Family is in town, a turkey has been slaughtered in our honor, and the mayor has declared a public holiday. And there’s a rainbow. And we’ve won a year supply of coffee heath bar crunch. And ice cream is now good for you.

Will report back – either from the NICU or the home front. But Happy Turkey/Tofurky Day to one and all!

-Alex and Dan

    Alex and Dan,

Thanks for the update, glad things are looking better for Pablo. It sounds like everyone is holding up well. Happy Thanksgiving, one of many momentous “firsts” with your new family. Enjoy!

A happy thanksgiving indeed. You know who we’ll be toasting at Omi’s today! (Hint: we’ll make it 5 toasts.)

Year’s supply of coffee heath bar crunch? How? And do these folks know the quantities involved?

Sending love x 5! Happy homecoming / tofurkey day!

Hi Dan…….just caught up on all your blogs. I’m sure all your friends and family appreciate the time and effort you took to keep a blog…..after all, you could have been sleeping instead. And what a wonderful way to celebrate Thanksgiving! I know that the grandparents are besides themselves with joy, but the great-uncles are rejoicing with you too. Just one thing though: surely you were just joking when you said you would raise the boys to be Yankee fans. What a horrible thing to do to such innocent babies. Well, I probably shouldn’t worry about it too much, cause growing up in New England, they’ll be Red Sox fans whether Daddy likes it or not. Maybe they’ll even convince Daddy to convert!
    best wishes to all
    and much love from
uncle and very great uncle neal
