fancy meeting you here

fancy meeting you here, Satch

We each got an hour – Alex with Levi, and then me with Satch. We were going to get a half hour with each, but once they settled in it seemed foolish to aggravate their calm. Levi slept like the baby he is on his mama’s chest, and also got some of her home cookin’ (albeit through a feeding tube). Papa then got to hang with Sir Twitchalot. Satch fell into a snooze, but it was punctuated by little sudden starts, a flail here, a gesticulation there. You know – he’s been doing this for more than just the 4 days he’s been on the outside. Feeling his little elbow burrowing in to me I realized, I have felt this before. But the last time I felt it (not actually burrowing into me, but hardness on the surface of my hand) it was an unidentified triplet (or “driblet,” as our morning head doc calls them) making his angularity known to the administration. Truth be told – and there are maybe four or five readers of this blog who could attest to this – Satch and I have similar dancing styles.

I could go all profound on you and try to truly convey what the first hour with a son sleeping (or bouncing) on your chest skin-to-skin does for the spleen, but I’m going to leave that to your imagination. I’ll just say Alex and I had a lovely afternoon. We hope to get a little closer to Pablo before too long – and signs are still pointing up.

Kangaroo care is the best feeling in the world. When we were able to hold our 24 weeker triplets for the first time, the world stopped. Who knew that something so small could change the world?
