Levi grabs, Pablo strives

Babies are hard-wired to grab fingers thrust into their midst, but this was still a pretty thrilling moment for me. Mama is up and around a little, off the tubes and able to ride in a wheelchair. We’ll go back up to the NICU in a little while, in time for rounds and a discussion of our boys’ statuses.
Meanwhile Pablo – the biggest of the three – is struggling a bit with oxygen today. His lungs aren’t quite as mature as those of his brothers, and his x-rays have been “a bit murky.” They’re going to intubate him (give him a breathing tube), and give him a dose of Surfactin, which will help allow Pablo’s little lungs to expand and function like they ought to. It’s funny just yesterday morning we were waiting for Pablo and Levi to practice breathing on the inside. Just goes to show you, Pablo, what waiting until the last minute to get your practicing in will do for you. Hang in there little man – just breathe. In, out, and again. We’ll be right there with you.

Sending great bales of oxygen & love from NYC.
And love that finger grabbing! Any baby who can get a firm hold on fingers *that big* can tackle anything in life.
